The Bruins Playoff Run — With Five Spogo-Style Predictions For You To Make
With our headquarters just minutes away from the TD Garden, where Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Finals will take place tonight, we at Spogo are smack in the middle of the Bruins hysteria that has kept Boston buzzing these last seven weeks. Here’s a Spogo-themed recap:
How We Got Here
The Bruins began the playoffs as the 4th seed in the East going up against 5th seeded Toronto Maple Leafs. The Bruins found themselves down 4-1 late in the third period of Game 7. What were the odds of a Bruins comeback win then? 30:1? 50:1? But that’s exactly what happened, and the Bruins never looked back.
The Bruins beat the New York Rangers in the Eastern Conference Semifinals, taking the series 4-1. Their only loss, a flukey overtime game that featured Tuukka Rask literally falling over and letting the puck roll to the back of the net.
In the Conference Finals, the Bruins faced the top-seeded Pittsburgh Penguins. This time the Bruins were on the wrong side of odds-makers, but the B’s managed a dominating sweep that featured two Tuukka Rask shutouts and a flawless defensive effort that held Sidney Crosby, Evgeni Malkin and many others to zero points.
The Stanley Cup Finals
Now here we are on the verge of Game 4. After Chicago took Game 1 in triple overtime 4-3, the Bruins bounced right back and won an overtime game of their own 2-1. In Game 3, the Bruins grabbed a 2-0 win and a 2-1 series lead.
There’s a reason these are the two teams competing for the Stanley Cup. Strong goaltending, team defense, balanced scoring, and smart coaching describe both the Bruins and Blackhawks.
